The first two tournaments of the 2025 Putting Tour got underway at the popular Enchanted Forest course in Onehunga, Auckland. Sadly, this course is due for closure at the end of April.

Over both days players came from Napier, Tauranga, Whitianga, Wellington, Matamata and Auckland.

Play got under way on a very warm Saturday afternoon and it wasn’t long before Matt Ansley showed why he could be the man to beat this year. An excellent 33 gave him a 5 stroke lead over Cameron Couper (38) with James McCarthy, John and Faye Ansley all recording 39.

Round 2 was more of the same with Matt (34) increasing his lead over Cameron and Fabian (38) with John Ansley (39) trying to play catch-up.

After Round 2 the Amateur division was decided with newcomer Grant Lincoln (94) edging out Angus Shaw (95) and Nikki Shaw (110). Congratulations to Grant who was a silver medalist in his category for mini golf at the recent NZ Masters Games held in Whanganui.

In Rounds 3 and 4 James Goatley and Paul Kerrigan joined the above players with scores in the 30’s, however the final result put Matt Ansley in 1st place. Cameron’s final round of 34 was not enough to close the gap but he took out 2nd place with James McCarthy in 3rd place.

Sunday morning provided another fine day and the scores in the Pro division were much closer than the day before where after two rounds there was only a 9 stroke difference between 1st and last placing.

Cameron Rope who won the very first Putting Tour event at Enchanted Forest in 2017 was welcomed to the tournament.

In Rounds 3 and 4 the scores fluctuated so much that it was anybody’s guess who was going to win. However, Matt Ansley (155) took out 1st place followed closely by James Goatley (158) and Faye Ansley (159) to reach a podium finish.

The Amateur division was a battle between husband and wife Angus & Nikki Shaw with Nikki edging out Angus by 2 shots.
